VOLCANOVA | Album Review ‘Cosmic Bullshit’ Out 25 February 2022 via The Sign Records

    Review By Heather Laing

‘Cosmic Bullshit’  Out 25 February 2022              Swedish label -The Sign Records

Melting away the Icelandic winter blues with this fiery new EP ‘Cosmic Bullshit.’

With 2022 now in full swing and still carrying so much uncertainty about Covid19, it’s no surprise so many of us are craving something new and exciting to get us through this uncertain future. It’s clear the gods of rock have heard our cries, as VOLCANOVA are here to answer our prayers with their latest album entitled ‘Cosmic Bullshit.’

This Stoner/Desert rock Icelandic band has certainly built up quite the reputation over the
years; earning their fame with a unique blend of enthralling guitar riffs and strong vocals
to produce a rock and roll anthem that brings fans the electrified feeling of standing in the
mosh pits, even when they’re listening at home. Their debut album ‘Radical Waves
expanded their fanbase on a global scale; receiving praise and popularity from all over the
world, as well as being listed on multiple occasions for “Stoner Rock albums of the year
2020.” With all of these achievements falling to their first album, it may have been debatable as to whether the band could create something of equal merit a second time.
However, it brings me great pleasure to say I believe ‘Cosmic Bullshit‘ not only lives up
to Vulcanova’s previous album, but is also in equal standing with it’s predecessor in terms of quality and style.

While ‘Cosmic Bullshit‘ maybe smaller, only containing six songs as opposed to ‘Radical Waves‘ ten; each song is a brilliantly composed rock and roll harmony, created with the band’s unique blend of bass grooves and epic guitar solos as well as engaging lyrics. Each track is as individual and unique as the masterpiece guitar solo it contains. The whole album never strays away from the styles and qualities that made ‘Radical Waves‘ such a big hit. Fans of the first album will find themselves both refreshed and energised by the faster rhythm and vibrant solos, but will also still receive that nostalgic satisfaction as ‘Cosmic Bullshit‘ still has the ability to contain everything they know and love about VOLCANOVA. Whether you’re waiting for the Live-show, hitting the rush hour traffic, or simply listening along while you clean; This EP will have you gearing up for the pit before you even know what’s hit you. Get ready to drum along across every surface and play your air guitar until your hands go numb. Hey, maybe even grab the cowbell if you have one.
