For progressive metal fans, this was more than a concert—it was a celebration of one of the genre’s defining works. As part of the Operation: Mindcrime – The Final Chapter tour, Geoff Tate brought the complete Operation: Mindcrime album to life at KK’s Steel Mill, delivering a performance that balanced nostalgia, storytelling and sheer musical power. The Wolverhampton date was part of Tate‘s UK run performing the landmark concept album in full for the final time.
The evening opened exactly as fans would have hoped, with I Remember Now and Anarchy-X setting the scene before the band launched into Revolution Calling and the title track. From there, the narrative unfolded seamlessly through classics such as Speak, Spreading the Disease, The Mission and a beautifully executed Suite Sister Mary featuring the wonderful singing talents of Clodagh McCarthy. The strength of the performance lay in the commitment to the story; each song felt like a chapter rather than an isolated number.

Tate’s voice remains remarkably expressive. While age has naturally softened some of the piercing highs that defined the original recordings, his phrasing and emotional delivery were exceptional throughout. The Needle Lies carried real urgency, while Breaking the Silence and I Don’t Believe in Love drew some of the loudest audience reactions of the night. The haunting sequence of Waiting for 22, My Empty Room and Eyes of a Stranger provided a dramatic and emotional conclusion to the album’s performance.
The set then shifted into newer territory with Geoff announcing a surprise inclusion from the forthcoming Operation: Mindcrime III project. The Answer received its first UK performance, giving fans a glimpse of the next chapter in the saga.
No Geoff Tate show would be complete without a visit to the wider Queensrÿche catalogue, and the encore delivered exactly that. Empire sounded majestic, Jet City Woman was ecstatically received, and Take Hold of the Flame reminded everyone why Tate remains one of progressive metal’s most distinctive vocalists. The evening closed with Do You Still Believe?, from Operation: Mindcrime III The simply stunning Silent Lucidity and right back to the beginning with Queen Of The Reich sending the crowd home on a cloud of nostalgia.
Geoff Tate’s return to KK’s Steel Mill was a masterclass in how to honour a classic album while still looking forward. The complete performance of Operation: Mindcrime was gripping from start to finish, the band played with precision and passion, and the addition of new material ensured the evening felt fresh rather than merely nostalgic. For fans of progressive metal, this was an unforgettable night and a fitting celebration of one of the genre’s greatest concept albums.
