Sabaton is not your typical heavy metal band. Formed in 1999, this Swedish band from Falun has a unique form of metal that draws you into the storyline to tell you a story about the past. Sabaton’s music is based on war, acts of heroism, and significant battles in history, and it even derives its name from a form of medieval foot armor called “the Sabaton.” The albums such as “The Great War’ and their latest from 2022, “The War to End All Wars,” are based on the heroic deeds of individuals and armies. One such honored individual is Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä with the song “White Death.” You can also check out their YouTube channel called “Sabaton History” to see the history of the events behind their songs. Over the years, Sabaton has created 10 Albums, with “The War to End All Wars” in 2022 being their latest. These albums have won numerous awards throughout their career, such as Metal Hammer Golden God Awards for “Best Breakthrough Band,” “Metal as F#*k,” and ”Best Live Band.” They also won awards for Metal Hammer and Bandit Rock Awards. Sabaton’s earlier album “Heros” ranked #1 on the Swedish Album Charts
In addition to industry awards, Sabaton has also won very distinctive and prestigious awards from the community. Sabaton was awarded an authentic Polish Saber in 2008 by the archbishop of Gdansk, Sławoj Leszek Głódź, for the highlighted Polish soldiers in some of their songs. Then, in 2016, Sabaton was invited to Curitiba to visit the Expeditionary Museum, where they were awarded the “Tenente Max Wolff Filho” medal. They were awarded this for bringing the story of these heroes to life in the song “Smoking Snakes.” This award has only been awarded to two foreigners, both ex-combatants.

For over 50 years, Judas Priest, the English heavy metal band from Birmingham, England, has been an iconic part of the music industry and one of the greatest metal bands ever. It is only ranked second by MTV to Black Sabbath, respectively. It’s funny to think the band’s name was derived from an old Bob Dylan Song, “The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest,” on the album John Wesley Harding. Even the symbol of Judas Priest has an incredible story to it. The band’s album cover for “Sad Wings of Destiny” shows a struggling, grounded angel surrounded by flames and wearing a devil’s three-pronged cross. I never actually knew what the symbol was till now. After this cover, the symbol became the band’s image.
I have never seen such diverse fans as I experienced in this crowd tonight. People dressed in the typical attire you have been known to see, such as leather and chains, but the newer generations went for more T-shirts and hoodies. It was interesting to see such a difference in styles. I believe a few people got lost coming to this show because they looked ready for a country show, and their hats may have been passed around the crowds. I wonder if they ever got it back. But it didn’t matter what someone wore. Everyone was excited and got along in the true metal family fashion. Kids as young as four were on their father’s shoulders with his hearing protection, which had flames painted on the sides, enjoying his time. The oldest I saw was a 73-year-old man from Montana who was having the time of his life. He said he had seen Judas Priest 7 times. Talk about dedication. They don’t come here to the US that often!
The entire night was filled with Judas Priest’s best of the best songs that we have all come to know and love. Halford’s signature metal operatic vocals with his deep throaty growls to high piercing screams filled the stage along with entertaining the crowd with his signature act we all expect of him and his Harley Davidson riding onto the stage in leather for the song “Hell Bent for Leather.” The Complexity of the guitar passages and the heavier, raw-sounding drums of Scott Travis with his use of “Double Kick” gave us the hard-hitting, heavy, fast tempo sounds we crave.
In 2006, Halford created his own record company, Metal God Entertainment, where he would release all his solo material. He also remastered his back catalog and released it exclusively through the Apple iTunes Store.
It’s no surprise that Judas Priest has sold well over 50 million albums in their career, and there is no slowing down in sight. Their 19th album is out now, “Invisible Shield” (Released March 8, 2024), and you can check it out on all the streaming sites and their site. Some of the singles on the album to check out are “Panic Attack,” “Trial by Fire,” and “Crown of Horns”. Judas Priest has had 11 consecutive albums that have become gold, platinum, or higher by the RIAA.
Judas Priest is one of just a handful of metal bands inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Judas Priest was inducted via the Award for Musical Excellence in 2022. The band performed three songs on stage with former members and fellow inductees K.K. Downing, Les Binks, and Dave Holland. Judas Priest has also been offered a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has won numerous other awards, such as:
Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best Album
VH1 Rock Honors
Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance
Hall of Heavy Metal History at the Wacken Open Air Festival
