    Event Review by Neil Franklin

“We’re missing you!” Swedish Metallers AVATAR team up with world renowned (US) ‘Danny Wimmer Presents’ for 4 streamed concert Events consuming the month of January.  Now known as ‘Avataranuary‘ to the faithful, 9th January sees the first instalment ‘Age of Dreams.’ Playing the bands 8th studio album ‘Hunter Gatherer‘ released 7th August, 2020 in it’s entirety.  Falling foul to Covid19 restrictions, this would be AVATAR‘s first live stream performance.

“The intention of this livestream is to create something which would be impossible to do at a real concert” comments John Alfredsson.  A 360° stage, 1 main with a further 3 theatrical sets, not a small project.

As the countdown clock starts to end, unlike other streams crowd video submissions, each one chanting “AVATAR” start to roll accelerating anticipation for those last few moments before AVATAR hit the ‘Virtual Stage,’ to take us on a journey through Ages..

Powering through their latest album ‘Hunter Gatherer‘.. in it’s entirety, in true AVATAR style they put in a blistering performance, not only looking great in new Black and Red attire they sound incredible, Johannes Eckerström showing an unfaltering vocal range. All members obviously relish playing live again, even though a little different. As tight as clothing after lockdown, it’s hard to believe these guys have had such a long involuntary break from live performances.  ‘Avatar Country,’ ‘Statue of The King,’ Let it Burn,’ ‘Bloody Angel,’ Smells Like a Freak Show‘ and ‘Hail The Apocalypse‘ favorites finish off an outstanding show.

With humorous intermissions, costumes changes, this production has been carefully thought out and adapted for the enjoyment of a TV audience, unquestionably setting a high standard on Live streaming. 10/10
