Insane Clown Posse played their first show of the SOLD OUT Train of Terror Tour
in Nashville, TN at Brooklyn Bowl on October 23, 2024
The night kicked off with an hour and a half of Juggalo Championship Wrestling or
JCW for short. The center of the venue’s floor was converted into a wrestling ring
and the stage became the announcer’s booth and DJ station. Wrestlers like Pink
Kane, Neon Ninja, The Superbeast, and many others went head to head in comical
wrestling matches.
Notable moments of the matches included an entire pizza being thrown at Pink
Kane, fights starting before the bell rang, and a triple takedown performed by an
old man.
The first music act of the night was the band Monsterwolf, hailing from Tijuana,
Baja California, Mexico. Led by NWA wrestler Mecha Wolf, this horror metal
band of werewolves comes to spread the gospel of “Sex, Wolves, and Rock n’
Roll”. Despite the small stage, Mecha Wolf’s commanding stage presence kept all
eyes on him. Special appearances by a ripped lady werewolf and a wolf priest kept
things fun for their short set. I enjoyed their strange breed of campy werewolf
antics and would definitely make my way out to another show.
Shaggy The Airhead is a producer, rapper, and fashion designer. He has previously
previously produced beats for ICP. He was my favorite of the openers. His final
song of the set had lyrics about hugging the people around you and making friends
with everyone around you. His last request of the crowd was to say hi to his
daughter on FaceTime.
Ouija Macc is a “eerie-trap” rapper from Las Vegas, Nevada. Growing up, he
loved ICP and is now apart of their record company Psychopathic Records. He had
a fun stage presence but his music wasn’t really my cup of tea, but i can really
appreciate an energetic performance.
Insane Clown Posse is a horrorcore rap group from Detroit, Michigan; consisting
of Violent J, Shaggy 2 Dope and DJ Clay. The group’s music contains shocking
and obscene lyrics about murder, necrophillia and other crimes. Despite all that,
they have a stark distaste for racists, bigots, child abusers and domestic violence.
ICP’s fanbase is referred to as Juggalos and Juggalettes. Juggalos have an entire
lifestyle based on ICP’s music. Juggalo culture is based on not caring what others
think and seeing everyone as equal.
Juggalos showed up and showed out for the first night of the “Train of Terror” tour.
I had to run a few errands before the show and ran into many clown faced juggalos
throughout Nashville. I arrived later for the show than usual and there was still
quite the line of juggalos and juggalettes waiting to get in.
Insane Clown Posse went on at 11:20 pm which was pretty unprecedented for this
venue. After speaking to a few fans, I found out that’s pretty commonplace for ICP.
The show started with “The Show Must Go On” as Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope
stepped onto the stage from opposite sides. DJ Clay made his way to his kit, which
was surrounded in plexiglass. Seated in the center of the stage, two carts full of
Diet Faygo.
During the chorus of the every song, about eight clowns took the stages and began
shaking up Faygo bottles and spraying them into the audience. Thankfully most of
the sound and lighting equipment was covered with plastic, although allegedly a
few power outlets were casualties in the faygo frenzy. Between every couple songs,
there would also be a Faygo break. More clowns would come out with buckets of
Faygo to fling at the audience.
My favorite song of the night was “Your Rebel Flag” which is about usage of the
confederate flag as a hate symbol and killing those who use it by burning them
alive. In 2020, they released a shirt with a clown burning a rebel flag which led to
controversy across social media.
This was the most energetic crowd i’ve ever seen. It felt like the entire crowd knew
every word to every song. I was frankly embarrassed that I only knew the hits.
The end of the show incited fans to hop the barricade and climb onstage, security
tried to stop them. Keyword is tried. It was a sight to behold. Total chaos.
Despite losing a contact due to a Faygo blast and leaving the venue sopping wet
with Faygo, I had a fantastic time. It was wetter than a GWAR show. I would love
to go to another ICP show soon, and if you’re cool with getting wet, you should
too!
