The Brian Jonestown Massacre Live Review 3rd February 2023 O2 Academy, Birmingham (UK).

The Brian Jonestown Massacre at the O2 Academy, Birmingham was definitely a sight for many eager psychedelic rock fans.  Opening strongly with one of they’re more recent tracks ‘#1 Lucky kitty‘ released in 2022 from the bands latest album ‘Fire Doesn’t Grow On Trees‘ to fantastic applause. Although they’re overall performance was very polished and clean, a series of major gremlin issues caused the pacing of the show to feel insanely underwhelming, predominately major feedback from equipment and long delays between tracks for re-tuning.  The lighting of psychedelic projected imagery on the ceiling was a very nice touch, especially considering the genre the band is notorious for. A true stand out song of the night was ‘Anemone,’ from the bands 1996 release ‘Their Satanic Majesties’ Second Request.’ Widely considered by many to be their defining and most popular song…and absolutely, did not disappoint. Overall the gig was a fantastic offering by Anton Newcombe, Ricky Maymi and the rest of the band. Would recommend seeing them again despite technical blunders.
