The Third World Trilogy Tour.
Who is the Cavalera Conspiracy?
The band was created following a 10-year silence between Max and Iggor Cavalera. The two brothers were famous for founding the legendary Brazilian Thrash Metal band Sepultura. Calavera Conspiracy consists of Max on vocals and guitar, Iggor on Drums, Igor Amadeus Cavalera on bass, and Travis Stone from “Pig Destroyer” on lead guitar. The band are currently on tour in the EU/UK.
So, how did the Show go?
I arrived at the Corporation nightclub around 7 pm, to be greeted by the friendly security, who said that I could wait in the courtyard outside the main venue and have a drink until it was time to go in. It was raining, but luckily the yard had ample cover and everyone managed to keep dry by around 7.15 the place had started to fill up, and Calavera fans were having a nice drink, chatting away, as they buzzed off the anticipation of what was billed to be a great evening of thrash metal.
The support band “Ashes of Ire” came on stage around 8 pm. the band is Sheffield-based, and can best be described as “Metalcore/Melodic Death Metal in the style of Trivium, Sylosis, Gojira, Amon Amarth.” The band played an excellent set of songs, that hit the crowd in the face, like a gale-force wind. I was impressed by the band’s solidity and professionalism. They used the stage well enjoying the experience, of playing on the same stage as “Cavalera Conspiracy.” I would recommend going to see this band live, I can only see the band growing musically and professionally over time. Cavalera Conspiracy entered the near-capacity main room around 9pm, to a great raw from their fans, a raw that was so loud it could probably be heard down the road. The atmosphere was electric with horned hands rising, heads banding, beer spilling, and beaming smiles, from both the band and their fans.
The stage was lit up with strobe lighting, television sets, ran reels of film, showing artwork for cover designs, abstracts, and the band’s name. The stage show added to the overall atmosphere of impending chaos and doom, delivered with great effect, keeping me and the fans visually engaged. The band used the stage space well, the bass player “Cavalera” was very active, dancing around and pulling off some nice moves, “Stone” on lead guitar did an excellent job, with some fast precise playing. Both Cavalera brothers lead the show with “Iggor” beating those skins like a maniac, Max with his banging head, and dark vocals playing his guitar, with the ferocity of a raging lion combined to make an intense sonic and graphic experience, for which the band must be congratulated for. The only criticism I have is that “Stone.” looked a little isolated on occasion, and maybe should be placed a little nearer the action.
Stand-out songs and performances were “Troops of Doom, Refuse/Resist and Territory. Troops Of Doom has all the ingredients that create a classic thrash metal song, intense pulsating rhythm fast energetic lead guitar solos, and crazy drumming, that sounds like a machine gun, with a slight industrial sound. Refuse/Resist and Territory are Sepultura classics, that any true metalhead should know. The above songs are fans’ favourites and received a great raw as they were played. I was also reminded of my youth upon hearing these classic songs.
Overall, the evening was great. I enjoyed myself, and so did the fans, the performances by both bands were exceptional, and the stage show was great. I recommend catching the band on tour and banging your head to some classic thrash metal, this show should not be missed.
