Having already seen Lake Malice perform this year, my hopes were high for a repeat of the incredible show they exhibited previously, and I was not disappointed. From the get go it was an electric, high tempo atmosphere, with plenty of crowd participation. Whether it was getting the crowd to crouch down to a lull in the song, to bouncing up and down to the breakdown, or my favourite part, the guitarist getting into the circle pit! Having just finished a tour with the iconic Enter Shikari, these Brighton based heavy hitters are certainly ones to watch out for in the future.
My introduction to Hanabie was a welcome one. From the moment they stepped on stage, the crowd were feral. Mosh pit after mosh pit opened up during the opening songs, and crowd surfers were in abundance throughout the show. There was a pause in the set for bassist Hettsu to share that she had lost her voice. She did this by holding up placards explaining that she’d lost her voice during an 8 hour phone call with fellow member and vocalist Yukina. The Japanese female powerhouses stormed the stage from start to finish. Never losing the crowds attention for a single second. The reception they received must have definitely made the trip across the world well worth it!
