There’s a storm in GG Magree’s voice — one part raw vulnerability, one part unapologetic fire. Her new single “Run” doesn’t just play through your speakers; it grabs you by the collar and dares you to feel something. Known for blurring the lines between rock grit and electronic euphoria, GG Magree delivers a track that feels like both a confession and a battle cry.

Fun little fact, The video for “Run” continues where “Bleed,” released in June, left off. You can also watch that HERE

In the days leading up to the release, we caught up with her to answer some questions about the spark behind “Run”, the risks of opening up in her writing, and how she plans to set stages ablaze when the song “Run” makes its live debut on August 13, 2025.

Kim: “Run” feels both vulnerable and powerful — can you walk us through the moment that sparked the first lyric or riff?

GG: “Run” was the first I ever wrote where I felt “Whoa this fully embodies who I am as an artist.” I was in a stupid ass situationship with someone who was very very wrong for me and finally when the lust wore off and I was able to see what was actually going on I got an overwhelming sense of strength and growth and went in and wrote “Run” the next day. It was almost a memoir to myself that no matter how shitty the situation or how big the loss feels at the time there’s always lessons, and I will always come out a better version of myself.

Kim: This track blends emotional storytelling with your signature intensity — what was the biggest challenge in balancing those elements?

GG: This song is soooo personal and I think the challenge was not editing the ugly parts, even when it made me uncomfortable to be so vulnerable. The idea was making it intimate, chaotic, fun but also stab at the pain I was feeling.

Kim: What part of the songwriting came first — melody, beat, or lyrics?

GG: It was the beat. Myself and my co-producer Duncan Wayne. We write everything together and I wanted to make something that made you want to run yourself in a brick wall, or that both the girls and boys could mosh to. He started with a guitar riff (which is murders cos he’s my fav guitarist) and the rest fell into place. This song was a one session song. We both knew it was a winner after we got the main bones of the song within the first 2 hours

Kim: Were there any songs or artists you were listening to heavily while creating this track?

GG: Yes, I’m a huge fan of Knock Loose, Loath, Harms way and Spiritbox.

Kim: What do you hope fans feel the first time they hear it live?

GG: I want them to feel like I’m kissing and biting them at the same time, rageful and sexy, not sure whether to run or beg and also that it’s OK to hurt.

Kim: Did you experiment with any new instruments, effects, or production tricks?

GG: This def is a first for me in the more metal side of music, Duncan however is in a Metal band called “After my fall.” I really leaned on him a lot in the production side of things. He’s a musical genius IMO. My only must was that there never was a musical section that same and that the song continued to build hence the 4 alternate drops.

Kim: How do you decide how much of your personal life to reveal in a song versus keeping it private?

GG: This is all personal. I can only write from personal experiences. So thou who shall not be named – u fucked with the wrong artist lol.

Kim: Which part of ”Run” was the hardest to get right?

GG: It feels crazy to say but the whole song really just flowed so well. We def spent a lot of time experimenting with different guitar tones however the song really just wrote itself.

Kim: How do you know when a song is truly finished and ready for the world?

GG: I don’t think you ever really know you just get to a point where if I don’t let it go it’s going to rot inside me and my therapists says better out then in.

Kim: How do you feel ”Run” sits within the current music landscape? Where do you feel it fits the best?

GG: I feel like music is craving to be more seductive and wild. Right now, the world is re-discovering Dark Pop which is kinda moody, atmospheric & haunting which is helping more experimental become mainstream. It’s becoming less about fitting in and more about standing out.

Kim: Did you have any “happy accidents” in the production that you decided to keep?

GG: The squeals and squeaks that are in the chorus was just me having the zoomies on the mic that made the cut haha

Kim: Did any part of the song change completely from the first demo to the final cut?

GG: Nope she was a day made song. We kept everything 🙂

Kim: How did you decide on the tempo — was it trial and error or immediate?

GG: I knew I wanted a half time break down at the end of the song and then I though fuck it imma half time the 3rd break down

Kim: Did you approach vocal effects differently for ”Run” than previous singles?

GG: No, I really try to use no vocal FX. I’m not a trained singer at all so my tone is what I believe makes my voice cool and me.

Kim: How do you prepare vocally for a track with so much emotional and dynamic range?

GG: I hate to say it, but I don’t really prepare. I need to learn and getting vocal lessons is on my 2025 to do list. Same as playing a sex club in Berlin lol

Kim: When writing, do you picture yourself performing the song live, or do you focus solely on the studio version first?

GG: ALWAYS picture it live and how it will flow with my sets and how my core fan base will react!

Kim: What’s one lyric you almost cut from ”Run” but decided to keep — and why?

GG: “RELEASING THE SPIDERS THERES NO WHERE TO HIDE BUT AT LEAST IN THE VOILENCE YOU ALMOST GET HIGH FEASTING IN SILENCE THEY’LL TEAR OUT YOUR EYE LIDS YOU WATCH YOURSELF BLEED AS YOU WISH YOU WERE BLIND “

It’s the most gory I’ve ever been in a vocal. It’s like unleashing my darkest toxic truths and letting chaos crawl free. It’s both danger and seduction (my 2 fav elements). Basically, I’m saying I will make you confront what lurking beneath the surface with nowhere to hide hehe

Kim: Was there anyone in your life you were nervous about hearing this song?

GG: He knows why I wrote it

Kim: How does the physical energy of performing a song like this differ from your heavier tracks?

GG: I feel like I’m in a trance when I perform this song! I pretty much back out and every time I have performed it live when the drum kick comes in everyone screams! No better feeling in the world then that!

Kim: Do you imagine ”Run” being screamed back to you by fans, or silently absorbed?

GG: SCREAMED!!!! I WANT U TO SCREAMMMMM

Kim: If you got to play at a legendary venue you’ve never played before, where would it be?

GG: Madison Square Garden is my dream and also Glastonbury fest

Kim: What’s the boldest thing you’ve ever seen a fan do at a show?

GG: My fans are honestly the fucking coolest! They bring me vintage metal merch from some of my fav bands. There very attentive and I have a super cool relationship with the OG ones.

Kim: Does ”Run” represent closure, or is it just the start of a bigger story?

GG: Oh, this is only part 2 baby…

Kim: Are there other songs already finished that feel like they live in the same universe as “Run”?

    GG: Yes Ma’am

Kim: What’s your “pre-release ritual” before dropping a song?

GG: Honestly me and Duncan usually studio the night before and make another song. We are really in a pocket right now and I feel really really aligned

Kim: How did you feel right now the day before the song is dropped?

GG: Excited for the world to hear and also see the music video. I’m hugeeeee into visual aspects that go along with my music and this music video is crazy.

Kim: How do you want your audience to grow with you over the next five years?

GG: My fans are outsiders, rebellious and slutty. There are people who don’t just listen to my music, they live it. They are often from the LGBTQ community and others who have felt misunderstood, sexualized or marginalized. They love honestly, dark beauty and unapologetic expressions of sexuality and trauma.

I would say my overall goal is for my community to grow and spread that vulnerability isn’t a weakness and to build not just about music but about transformation. Together there are no limits

    Kim: Any Tour plans?

GG: Oh yes, coming soon 😊

    ABOUT GG MAGREE- Australian DJ/vocalist/producer

Like some kind of glittering love witch, GG Magree conjures sex and death to create lyrical alchemy — with a hefty helping of joyful sleaze. Whether it be her one-on-one convos with the spirit world, or her cosplays as a yet to be revealed freaky character, the electro-punk-loving Aussie is channeling it all on her new music.

Magree grew up in the heart of the Australian club scene; her dad owned one of the more historic gay clubs in the country, and she was celebrating birthdays there well before it was legal. Rubbing elbows with the likes of Steve Aoki, the Bloody Beetroots, and scene photographer the Cobrasnake (she was his muse), Magree toured and collaborated with EDM star NGHTMRE (they dropped “Frontlines” with Zeds Dead in 2016) and performed on stages at Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Ultra Music Festival. She’s channeled those electronic roots into heavy, powerful industrial sound in her new music.
