We at ROCKwell Unscene Magazine have the great pleasure of reviewing the latest belter of and album by Jinjer…
Jinjer’s Heavily Anticipated Fifth Studio Album “Duél” Releases on 7th February via Napalm Records
Jinjer is a Ukraine based metal band formed in 2009, the band currently consists of Tatiana Shmayluk on vocals, Roman Ibramkhalilov on guitars, Eugene Abdukhanov on bass and Vlad Ulasevich on drums. With so many sold–out headline shows and performances for massive audiences at leading festivals such as Wacken Open Air and Download UK serve as further proof of JINJER’s dedicated, ever– growing fanbase. Having previously shared stage with the likes of Arch Enemy and Cradle Of Filth, recent additions to JINJER’s intense live schedule feature supporting thelegendary Sepultura on their farewell world tour.
The new album showcases the very best of JINJER’s multifaceted, extreme soundscapes,
providing a gripping listening experience. Nothing less than the highest level of musicianship is expected from the modern metal frontrunners, and track after track JINJER skillfully delivers fierce attitude and emotion…
This eleven song album is full of face melting, stank facing, head banging goodness. Tatiana’s duality of clean singsongy vocals and brutal and ferocious gutturals never fail to blow me away. The instrumentation is new for Jinjer. I noticed a more jazzy intonation while still maintaining the groove and progressive roots that make Jinjer’s sound. The bass tone laid down by Eugene Abdukhanov is so fun yet so fierce!
We were blessed with five teasers from Duel including “Kafka”, “Rouge” ,“Someone’s Daughter” and, “Green Serpent”. “Duel” the title track was released earlier this week with a gorgeous music video.
Duel is a monster of a track and perfectly wraps up this album. The album’s theme of fighting against the self is something that everyone can relate to. Duel perfectly encapsulates the album and it’s messaging. The final lines of the song “No painkillers I need. I deserved it all indeed. Though I’m down on my knees I have battled my old me.” are simply haunting.
“Someone’s Daughter” has been in my regular rotation since the day it was released. It’s both beautiful in its instrumentals and a gut punch with its lyrics. The lyrics describe the hardship of womanhood and coming into your own, regardless of preconceived notions and expectations.
My favorite track off this album is “A Tongue So Sly”. The song comes flying in swinging with Roman Inbramkhalilov’s guitar work and Vlad’s Ulasevich’s blast beats. Its delightfully heavy and has a perfect blend of heavy and elegant vocals.
This album is a solid 9/10! My only complaint is that it needs more songs! Duel is utterly fantastic. It’s obvious that the band poured their heart and soul into it while continuing to evolve Jinjer’s heavy hitting sound. I’m hoping for a U.S. Tour soon in support of this album. I NEED to hear and feel this entire album live.
