Another fantastic night at a Sold Out The Asylum in Birmingham featuring one of the best live bands around at the moment –Wednesday 13 – visitng as part of their Summer Blood Strom Tour.

    The Nocturnal Affair

A single tight drum hit from Raistlin “RJ” Hamman announces the start of their set (making those who weren’t paying attention jump, me included) followed by a short but ferociously frenzied drum solo before the rest of the band arrive on stage. Kicking off with a cover of the Depeche Mode song Its No Good. Singer Brendan Shane is a brilliant frontman and was getting The Asylum crowd nicely warmed up for the evening ahead. They carried on with Down then Unwound showing their heady cocktail of darkness and shade. They carried on with Piano/Guitar Solo featuring Shane, Andy Ingraham and Dru Lappin (guitar). They were then into the ferocious Backbiter then Cross Me Out finishing with a tongue in cheek version of the Haddaway song What Is Love. A brilliant start to the evening

England wasted no time, opening with Necromania, a brilliant way to start the set. They were fronted by dual vocalists Laurence Beveridge and Kier Kemp who were in excellent form.  They went straight into Braindead then Say What You Want From Me (The Ghost You Left Behind) the energy in the room never dipped and Kemps interactions with the crowd were helping drive the intensity high. The rest of the band  – bassist Drew Woolnough – lead guitarist Shane Sumner and drummer Pilnahn were a tight unit helping drive the power and vitality of the music. Finishing with Batten Down the Hatches and All Hallows Evil this was an excellent set.

The set flowed with horror‑punk classics to new tracks from Mid Death Crisis, each delivered with sinister charm and horror-film swagger. The  venue was sold out  with  600 people packed in and loving every minute of it. Kicking off with a fantastic version of Look What the Bats Dragged In from Transylvania 90210. We were then into new song Rotting Away, then back to Transylvania 90210 I Want You… Dead and another new one When the Devil Commands. Then was into  Murderdolls cover – Summertime Suicide then a Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 –  197666.  The rest of the band are stunning both visually and musically  –Jack Tankersley – Guitar –Troy Doebbler – Bass – Mike Dupke – Drums and Ashes – Lead Guitar.
The venue was bouncing and singing along to every song especially during Good Day to be A Bad Guy. Then into Nowhere (Murderdolls cover), I Walked With a Zombie  and Bad Things from Transylvania 90210. Finishing with a stunning version of I Love to Say Fuck.
