ASKING ALEXANDRIA – WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

    EP RELEASED ON 18TH OCTOBER

    VIA BETTER NOISE MUSIC

As ASKING ALEXANDRIA are on the road again for the second leg of its acclaimed “All My Friends” headlining U.S. tour from September 24 through November 2. The inspirational British rock influencers share news of a new EP. Due October 18th via Better Noise Music, the digital EP includes remixed versions of popular tracks from their recent 2023 album “Where Do We Go From Here?”

Asking Alexandria have shared the first listen to two new tracks from the EP. The modern day melodic song “Let Go” The original has become the third highest streaming track on “Where Do We Go From Here?”, this gets a remixed touch from upstart Los Angeles-based producer Kodeblooded. Who is becoming well regarded in the industry. The band has also released a remixed version of fan favourite track “Bad Blood” from viral Indonesian DJ group Weird Genius. Watch below…

After the first listen I was impressed, it reminded me of rock band collaborations with the likes of Skrillex of the past that I had enjoyed in my younger years. It took me back to a time where Pendulum were very much powerhouses at that time too. Although this remix is innovative and authentic in its own right also.

Bad Blood Weird Genius Remix, this track much like the original is a wonderful fusion of hard rock that splashes in a sense of fragility, there is a certain sense of pain that goes along with this like the original. However this also includes electronic dance overtones, with an even more pronounced baseline which I think will make this one and many more on the EP album perfect for rock night clubs, raves and festivals. It is a true anthem to add to the already bolstering collection of Asking Alexandria.

Let Go Kodeblooded Remix – The rhythmic pulsing during the intro gets the heart racing that’s for sure. Then it infuses with powerful vocals into an outburst of energetic high tempo beats. The lyrics tie in well as it is more about recovering and letting go of the past than other tracks that are less optimistic.

Nothing Left Cass Dillon Remix, this remix is a standout, Danny Worksop and his passionate vocals emit the agony of this song perfectly. The original is a great track and this might even be better. The guttural growls in the chorus combined with beastly rhythmic breakdowns of electronic overtones make this an instant classic. Literally sends shivers up your spine, it is innovative and one of the best remixes I have come across.

Where Do We Go From Here? (Fairlane Remix) Fairlane is notably talented from past works on other remixes with the likes of Imagine Dragons. He is multi-talented across many different platforms and he doesn’t disappoint here either. The original is an instant classic, a hurtful yet breathtaking ballad song. This is an eclectic remix of vast ups and downs, rhythmically colliding with the aching lyrics and Dannys prepossessing vocals which evoke emotions greatly. Anguish and pleasure colliding throughout the song and he has re-recorded his voice I would think on this one which is full credit too him, doesn’t always happen on remix eps. It’s contrasting to the original but a great spin on it.

Where Do We Go From Here? A beautiful song and the album title is a ‘get the lighters out (or phones nowadays) and let yourself live in the moment.’ It grabs you emotionally right from the beginning. The vocals intertwine wonderfully with the acoustics. Ambiguous in its nature with the lyrics. It portrays not wanting to let go but at the same time knowing it might be time. The outro picks it up adding a little more oomph and Dannys vocals again are brilliant. Sad in nature but absolutely stunning, emotive and relatable to most I would imagine.

The Remixes” EP also includes “Dark Void (Sullivan King Remix)” which was included on the bands “Dark Void” EP in January surrounding “Blue Monday ” the most depressing day of the year. This corresponds with the track’s theme surrounding overcoming mental health battles. I can actually hear the difference straight away here from the original track, a shorter intro and far more of a softer tone in the vocals than the original as well.

Around midway scratches and samples start to appear without it being too dominating. Another energetic song and it sounds as though Worsnop has again re-recorded his vocal parts for this version rather than just rework existing vocals, which is definitely a credit to him. Most remixes are not given that kind of attention on one song let alone a couple. The outro is thumping techno music and then Danny’s vocals evoke thoughts of inspiration before the track fades out and into itself. In an interesting and shadowy way, enjoyable to say the least.

Holding Onto Something More is a gentler track with a sense of hopefulness to it, making the EP not unlike the album feel like something of a mental health journey, you can see this track is to inspire a great comeback from the harder times in life. Rather than suffocating the audience in darker times, this track gives a lift out of the shadows and into the light. This is also the last track on the original album too.

“Where Do We Go From Here?” EP adds even further experimental electronic dance sounds and is a perfect addition to an already splendid album. Despite Ben Bruce‘s departure in January meaning there are none of the original members left in the band. You can see that Asking Alexandria is in good hands, enjoy their music they are becoming ever more prevalent and important to metal and music as a whole.
