KAISER CHIEFS The Easy Eight Tour Wednesday 17th April 2024 The Halls Wolverhampton

Photography by KKLive Photography - Kal Ahmed Review by Alec King

The Halls, recently reopened after renovation, let’s start there. Easy to find and plenty of parking. Bars all around if somewhat small, but just one thing puzzled me, the toilets, essential on gig night, but Men’s, disabled and yet the ladies were unisex, this left a queue for the ladies.
New lighting rig and seating quite comfy.
Anyway, we came to party and that’s what we got.
The support act Youth Sector from Brighton, started the night with a bang, dressed loud in their yellow, pink and green, hit the stage with what they describe as alternative indie, personally a cross between OMD and the Scissor Sisters. Absolute bonkers.
Singer Nick Tompkins got the crowd alive with his high energy and crowd engagement with songs “here comes the fear” & “won’t stop the wheel”.
Fantastic support for what was to come.

Kaiser Chiefs, formed in Leeds last century, on their 8th album tour, treated us to a proper party. Not sure where Ricky gets his energy from, but wow, straight in, speaker on the side, stood on top, opening up with “feeling alright”, the same can’t be said for the microphone stand, straight into “never miss a beat.”
The next song was just average (Everything is Average Nowadays) and then teaching us how to dance (How 2 Dance) the modern way (Modern Way). Absolute madness in the crowd, loved it!
“Reasons to stay alive” probably not the most apt song when Ricky decided to climb up on to the balcony, not steps, I mean climb, nope, not a safety harness in sight, mixed with the crowd, chatted, selfies galore. The thought from all sat near us was “how’s he gonna get down?” yep he climbed.
A quick swig of water then into 15 minutes of chaos. The crowd were loud, proud and rockin’ “Everyday” “I predict a riot”, “Ruby” and “angry mob”.
After this there was no way, they weren’t coming back on. Nobody left, they had no choice. Encore “Coming Home” and “Oh my God” kept the night going.
Fantastic night, great show, superb venue…
