Dead Girls Academy with Alive in Barcelona and Clio Cadence at GMBG

Gas Monkey Bar and Grill hosted the first ever headling tour of Dead Girls Academy on a beautiful but blistering hot August night. If you are not familiar with the band, they are a hard rock band with members that have some roots in the Warped Tour scene, but who have found a home and been imbraced by the mainstream rock and roll scene. Touring with such acts as John5, and soon P.O.D and Alien Ant Farm on a European tour, Dead Girls Academy is making noise. We spoke with lead vocalist Michael Orlando and he told us that many of the lyrics come from a place of pain to him, primarily from bad break-ups and shitty relationships. He is a wordsmith who isn’t afraid to utilize deep lyrics, but not just any lyrics – lyrics that rock. I give this band a 5 out 5 on bands to see.

Direct for Dead Girls Academy was Alive in Barcelona. With a giant ginger front man Matt Hoos, he proved not only can he rock but he has a wicked sense of humor. The other members of Alive in Barcelona include: Jesse Barton strings and vocals, Chase Williams drums, Cameron Douthat Strings, and Colton Anderson Strings.  One of the best rock moments ever happened when a girl about 6 was lifted on stage. Matt rocked out with her then returned her safely to the audience/responsible adult. As a mom and a rock fan this made my heart smile. And cheers for bringing kids out to live music. It is good for them.

The night opened with Clio Cadence. This hometown Texas girl showed Gas Monkey Bar and Grill some home grown talent.

As always, support local music and check out a band new to you today. Best case, you leave with a new band to add to your play list. Worse case… well none because you’re out and it is live music silly!
